I love Thanksgiving! Its sole purpose is to be intentional about the people, environments, or activities that add meaning to our lives. To take a moment, a pause, and think about others. Many of us share a meal and build community. And while you won’t find me anywhere near a mall on Black Friday, for many others, that shopping tradition is about hanging out with friends or family and finding the perfect gift for someone else.
People are top of mind.
In business, we often receive or send thank you notes to clients or customers around this time of year. Hopefully, we do the same for our staff and colleagues. Technology makes it easier to broadcast our thanks, yet taking the time to do so remains important. For all, it’s about connection.
Connection and people are at the heart of good strategy execution.
Strategy is the handful of decisions and actions needed to get you where you want to go. People make or break success in achieving your company objectives, reaching the destination described by your vision. Connecting your people to that destination helps embed the objectives, the intent, and create a sense of shared purpose. That makes it easier to frame and take decisions that are most directly relevant to your strategy. And connecting decisions and actions to your destination makes good strategy. Doing so, you are likely to have a lot more to be thankful for next year.
As you enjoy Thanksgiving, consider this: How will you connect professionally and personally in the coming year?
Connect to customers, your staff, and the direction you hope to take your business. Then be mindful and deliberate about the actions you will take to create and nurture the connection.
Happy Thanksgiving!
